BJØRN NORVALL HOEMSNES - CO PRODUCER, COMPOSER AND FOUNDER

Bjørn Norvall Hoemsnes

Hoemsnes is a composer and piano and composition pedagog. His works have been performed in Norway and abroad, including Bergen International Music Festival and Schloss Pommersfelden Music Festival in Bavaria. He was composer in residence at the VinterRiss Festival in 2012. He has composed a lot of piano music, which can be heard on Youtube/norwalltino. He is also the pianist of the Giuffre Memorial Trio including the members Roger Arve Vigulf and Per Christian Arnesen. Together with Roger Arve Vigulf, Hoemsnes is the founder of the Ensemble KammerKlang. The ensemble was founded in 2018 and has given numerous concerts since its official launch in March 2019. Hoemsnes holds a bachelor's degree from the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and a master's degree from the Norwegian Royal Academy of Music under Professor Finn Mortensen. He won the first prize in a Jubilee competition for symphonic band in 1978, which was attended by the Norwegian Royal Family in Norway and broadcasted on NRK, the official national television channel. Later he had his breakthrough with 'Opus Partus', which had its world premier in Bergen in 1985. Performed by The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces. Then performed in Oslo in 1990 at the Ultima Festival, then in Trondheim by elite wind bands from Norway and then in the USA under conductor and composer Karel Husa. ‘Opus Partus' makes up a core of Hoemsnes' creative language, although his piano music on YouTube/norwalltino makes more comprehension of his composing mind. Hoemsnes was among the founders of New Music in Østfold 2006 and New Music in Vestfold 2019.
